In Memoriam
Charles Heemer
10th District SAL Commander
2011 - September, 2012

It is with great sorrow that we have to announce that Charles Heemer, our 10th District SAL Commander has been called to the Squadron Everlasting. Charles was a 58 year member of the SAL. During that period he served 4 times as the commander of Anoka Squadron 102, 10 years as a District Vice-Commander, and finally as the current District Commander. He was survived by his fiancée, Marianne Voit; son, Dennis (Janna) Sierens; 2 granddaughters; and many friends.

Charlie’s funeral service was held on September 22, 2012 at the Washburn McReavey Seaman Chapel in Coon Rap-ids, MN at 11 AM. During the ceremony the minister asked those in attendance to talk about Charlie. A Past District Commander talked about under estimating Charlie’s abilities. He said he kind of ignored Charlie when he said that he would get the SAL to 10 Thousand members, as if he could do it all by himself. Sure enough it was Charlie who brought in the 10,00th member in for the year.

Another Past District Commander talked about the time Charlie, seeing that there was a bare meridian in the street of Anoka, planted American Flags for everyone to see, which the City of Anoka presented him a commendation for doing so.

When talking about Charlie many people mentioned what a great friend he was. He seemed if you had Charlie as a friend, you had a friend for life. Marianne described him as charming and supportive.

Charles Heemer was a devoted member of the SAL, who did everything in his power to encourage people to join, and a friend to everyone.

He will be missed.
